Why local SEO is different

A local search is one with a place in it, or one Google treats as local: “plumber near me”, “dog sitter Melbourne”, “accountant Fitzroy”. Google usually answers these with a map and a short list of businesses before any ordinary results. Being on that list depends on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, how close you are to the searcher, and whether your website backs up what your profile says.

That makes local SEO for small business a different job from general SEO. It is less about publishing a lot of content and more about getting the details right everywhere your business appears.

Local SEO across Australia, from Melbourne

Kraken Digital is based in Melbourne and offers local SEO to businesses anywhere in Australia. The work is the same whether you serve one suburb or several cities: we build a page and a presence for each place you want to be found. If your customers are in Melbourne, see SEO for Melbourne small businesses.

For a Melbourne example, read the Pooch N Pounce case study: a local pet sitting business with service pages written around Melbourne searches and a Google Business Profile to match. If you run an NDIS provider, see SEO for NDIS providers. For businesses from Frankston to Portsea, see local SEO on the Mornington Peninsula.

Local SEO FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we get asked most about local SEO.

What is local SEO?

Local SEO is the work of getting a business found in Google Maps and local search results by people nearby. It centres on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, pages for the areas you serve, and consistent business details across the web.
Our SEO packages start at $349 a month and run month to month. The right package depends on how many services and areas you want to be found for. Start with a free SEO audit and we will recommend one.
Fixes to your Google Business Profile can show within weeks. Rankings for competitive local searches usually take 3 to 6 months of steady work, and longer in crowded categories.
No. Businesses that travel to their customers can have a Google Business Profile as a service-area business, without showing a street address. We set it up to match how you actually work.
No, and be wary of anyone who does. Google decides rankings. What we commit to is the work and a plain-English record of it every month.
Normal SEO aims at searches where location does not matter. Local SEO aims at searches tied to a place, where the map results and your Google Business Profile carry most of the weight. Our guide to what local SEO experts do covers it in more detail.
